Mentee Onboarding Process

Student On Boarding Process

YMI’s philosophy is that every student benefits from having another caring adult in their life. Any student can be recommended to the YMI program! Most of our student referrals come from School Counselors, Social Workers, or parents who recognize the impact another caring adult could have on the life of a particular student. Oftentimes another listening ear can make all the difference!

Steps to Get a Mentor

Student Recommendation

YMI accepts recommendations for students in grades 3-11. Student is recommended to the program via the student recommendation form. Often this recommendation comes from a teacher, school counselor, or parent, but students are welcome to self-refer as well.

Complete YMI Guardian Application

When a recommendation form is received, the parent and/or legal guardian will receive an email asking for some basic information to be completed to register their student for YMI.

Complete of Student Application

Once guardian consent is received, a YMI team member will work with the mentee to complete a student application. The mentor application is the main tool used to create a thoughtful, strong match between mentor and mentee.

Meet your Mentor!

YMI will use the student recommendation form and application to make the best match possible with a mentor. We’ll help set up your weekly one-on-one meetings (30-45 minutes in length) with your mentor at your school.
